Alexander Mogilny is a retired professional hockey player originally from Russia. He was born on February 18, 1969, in Khabarovsk, Soviet Union. Mogilny played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for a number of teams including the Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, and New Jersey Devils.
Mogilny was known for his speed, skill, and goal-scoring ability. He was the first Soviet player to defect to the United States to play in the NHL, and he had a successful career in the league, scoring over 1,000 points in over 1,000 games played.
Mogilny was a Stanley Cup champion with the New Jersey Devils in 2000 and also won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship and gentlemanly play in 2003.
After retiring from professional hockey, Mogilny worked in various roles in the NHL, including as a coach and executive. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018 in recognition of his outstanding career in the sport.
